Lost Objects (2024)
35mm slides in slide viewers

Each slide is viewed through a handheld slide viewer, and each slide captures an abandoned tool found in Tucker’s Maltings, a former malt barley storehouse alongside the railway lines at Newton Abbot, Devon.

Photographed in situ, yet separated from the dust and grime where they were left, each tool announces its presence, its agency; in contrast to its redundant future.

The Riddler (2024)
Single channel looped video

Three grain riddles, or sieves, held a particular fascination, and prompted a performance involving balancing and rolling them back and forth, recalling the hands and arms of the maltsters sifting the grain, as well as the rolling stock travelling up and down the train line.

In capturing the swaying movement of one riddle, the sound of a train is recorded by chance and becomes the soundscape on the edited and looped video The Riddler (2024), projected into the disordered and cavernous space of the barley store.
