reformation: context
The focus for Reformations is a former site of exclusion, the former Devon County Pauper Lunatic Asylum, opened in 1845. The project investigates methods of containment and coercion and involves the unearthing of narratives relating to the site's histories, including its closure as a hospital and its redevelopment into owner-occupier gated residencies - a former place of exclusion transformed into a place of self-exclusion and exclusivity.

The project examines the building’s spaces as conduits between memory, social practices, architecture, and discursive networks and sites, especially those relating to regulatory systems.
